Principals' Weekly Updates

DiPietro Elementary School

September 2, 2026

Hello DiPietro Families!

We had a terrific opening of school. Our first, second, and third grade students arrived eagerly on Wednesday, September 26th. We visited all classrooms and was thrilled to see our students smiling and settling in to their new classrooms with ease!

Our Kindergarten friends attended Popsicles on the Playground on Monday 8/24, orientation on Wednesday 8/26, and finally had their first day on Thursday 8/27.

At last, our Preschool friends joined us to round out the week on Friday 8/28. Overall a very successful first week and we are ready to move forward with learning.

We have several events coming up in September including:
  • No School on Friday September 4th and Monday September 7th in observance of Labor Day
  • PreK-3 Meet the Teacher Night on Wednesday September 16th from 6:00-6:45 for PreK & K and 6:55-7:45 for Grades 1-3.
  • DiPietro Ice Cream Social on Friday September 25th from 5:30-7:00. We will be looking for donations - see the DiPietro Elementary School PTO Facebook page for more info soon.
  • We will also be getting ready for our annual DiPietro Fun Run to be held on Friday, October 16th. CORIs are needed for family participants.

As you can see, our newsletter format, and our school website has been updated since last year. We will be sending out a family newsletter each week as we have done in the past and we will also link it on our DiPietro homepage.  Please also be sure to check out our DiPietro School Calendar on our webpage.

We are so excited to partner with all of you once again this year. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions of concerns. We wish all of our students and families a wonderful school year!

CORI Forms - Please Fill Out

DiPietro family members who wish to walk/run on the field during the Fun Run on October 16th must have a valid CORI on file. CORIs are valid for two years.  We have CORI forms in our main office and family members are welcome to stop by Monday through Friday between 9:15 - 2:30 to fill out a CORI.  We will also have a CORI checklist and CORI forms available on Meet The Teacher Night September 16th. All you need to do is fill out the form and present a valid photo id such as a drivers' license.  PLEASE fill out CORIs early so you are ready for our yearly events such as field trips, volunteer opportunities, and end of year events.

DiPietro Lending Library

Literacy is very important to us and we strive to instill a love of reading in our students.  We will continue our tradition of supporting all students to develop strong reading skills this year by inspiring them to read outside of school.  Over the summer we were fortunate to be able to install a lending library! Thank you to our grade three class of 2026!  The lending library is free and open to student and families.  You may take a book from the lending library and also make a donation at any time.  The lending library is located in front of our school at the main crosswalk.  We hope you will check it out!

Upcoming Events

Statewide Call for Student Artwork for Hispanic and Latino Heritage   Month
The Hispanic and Latin Organization of Leaders in Action (HOLA), an employee resource group at DESE, invites student artists to submit their artwork about Hispanic or Latino identity or culture to be featured in DESE’s Board meeting rooms in late September in honor of Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month. The theme is “Our Diversity is Our Strength.” Students may submit originals or copies of visual art – including but not necessarily limited to drawings, collages, paintings, murals, sculptures, computer illustrations, and photographs. Students may submit work created specifically for this event or work created previously that fits the theme.

The selection committee will prioritize showcasing work from a variety of schools across the Commonwealth. Submissions are due by Monday, September 14. HOLA will make their selections and share their decisions by Friday, September 18. All entries should be submitted using this student art submission form. The submission form includes space for the artist’s name, school, grade, sponsoring teacher, a scan or photo of the piece, the media used, and an optional space for an artist statement.

Academic Corner: Beginning of Year Benchmarking

We want to share that we will be working with students to gather beginning of year math and literacy data.  Students in grades 1-3 will be starting to take I Ready, Number, corner, and DIBELS assessments during the week of September 9th. Kindergarten students participate in DIBELS assessments later in September.
The grades 1-3 I Ready assessments for literacy and math are given over a four day span.
Each assessment consists of two-45 minutes sessions.  Number corner assessments are administered to the whole class, except in Kindergarten where they are administered 1:1.  Our DIBELS assessment is also administered 1:1 and measures a range of early literacy skills.
